Domaine Elodie Roy Maranges En Buliet White 2020
"2018 was the debut vintage for Domaine Elodie Roy. But the back story is incredible. And the future…. well, a star is born!
Elodie grew up in a winemaking family in Cheilly-les Maranges in the southern-most tip of the Cote de Beaune. Her parents worked 25 acres of vines on their own, selling grapes to negociants. So Elodie and her sister helped when they could. As a teenager, she saw how hard the work was, and decided not to follow in their footsteps.
So she studied Law, and then went to work in a bank. Six months later she knew she had made a mistake. So she went back to school. This time, to study wine. Her parents were not too happy about this turn-about and tried to convince her that there was stability in the banking sector. But her mind was made up.
The problem was that her father was not yet ready to give up his vines. So afer getting an interniship in the Rhone, she took a job at the Domaine Anne Gros in Vosne-Romanee where she worked alongside Anne, with responsibilities in every aspect of The Estate for 11 years until Anne’s children came back to the Estate full time, which coincided with the perfect timing to take over the family Estate in “Les Maranges”
In 2018, at 38, she took over the family domain. 24 acres of old vines in good condition, that we previously sold to the local negoce along with a small family production.
Elodie arrived at the Estate with the idea of doing things “the way I used to to them in Vosne”, the use of chemicals is now proscribed and the soils are plowed. The portion of wines sold to the negoce will slowly decline as the press has already taken notice of this special talent in the southernmost appellation of Cote de Beaune.
Elodie is just getting started, but she is already a bright shining star and will definitely carry the torch for two of female driven associations in the area: Femmes et Vins de Bourgogne and a new one called Mi-Filles / Mi-Raisins where she alongwith 10 other female winemakers are promoting the “small” appellations…
This is definitely a “Once upon a time” type story that we are once again excited to see unfold…" -Supplier notes
