Julien Sunier Wild Soul 2021
Beaujolais is also one of the birth places of Low Intervention, or Sans Soufre (no sulfur) wines. The so-called the Gang of Four (Marcel Lapierre, Jean Foillard, Jean-Paul Thévenet, and Guy Breton), who came up in the 70s and 80s, impacted an entire generation of winemakers, not just in Beaujolais but all over the world. They were the godfathers of “natural” wine.
Julien Sunier is walking the trail they blazed. Julien came into wine in a unique way. The son of a Dijon hairdresser, he met Christophe Roumier, one of his Mom’s client and a legendary winemaker who took him under his wing as an intern at his Chambolle Musigny estate. Equally influenced by the stately wines of Roumier AND the Gang of Four, Sunier is the prototype of Young Beaujolais.
