Mondavi is arguably the most important name ever in California fine wine. Robert Mondavi and his eponymous winery were one of the first estates to really invest in and proselytize California’s potential to create world class wine. In 2004, the Mondavi estate was bought out by Constellation Brands, one of the country’s biggest bulk wine producers. Since then, the family has continued on the Mondavi legacy with a variety of new projects that are committed to making California wine at the highest level. In 2005, Continuum was founded, making a single estate blend on the famed terroir of Pritchard Hill. In 2013, Carlo and Dante Mondavi, two of Robert’s grandchildren, ventured off on their own to explore the possibilities of California Pinot Noir, founding RAEN in the far western wilds of the Sonoma Coast.
RAEN has since released some of the best Pinot Noir’s made in America, pushing past the stereotypes of the genre while also resisting the urge to twist their wines into weak similes of Burgundy. Instead they make wines of true California terroir and pleasure, and we could not be more thrilled to be welcoming Carlo to Le Dû’s to share his wines.
