Pfalz is a funny wine region. Stuck between two worlds, the intense minerality of the Mosel to the north and the honeyed opulence of Alsace to the south, Pfalz has struggled to carve out a unique niche in the world of fine white wine. One winemaker, however, is doing his best to flip this conundrum on its head, and over the past decade has consistently produced some of Germany’s best white wines. That winemaker is Hansjörg Rebholz of Weingut Okonomierat Rebholz, and he is leading the way in transforming Pfalz’s curse into a blessing, marrying the minerality of Mosel with the ripeness of Alsace into singular and beautifully expressive wines that offer tremendous joy, ageing potential, and value.
