“The Domaine des Mazelles, a winery since several generations, extends over the hills of the Cher River Valley, on the right bank of the village of Thésée, nearby the famous Châteaux of Chenonceau. Rich of a unique terroir of clay-siliceous flint-infused soil, and of some of the best exposure the valley has to offer – South-East and South-West – the Domaine des Mazelles was born in the late 1930s to become the 15 hectares it produces today in AOP TOURAINE, CHENONCEAUX et CREMANT DE LOIRE, and produce mainly the grape Sauvigon Blanc, which it has learnt to master throughout the years. The Domaine’s unique name comes from its surroundings, where a unique historical monument can be discovered. Les Mazelles is above all the name of the Gallo Roman ruins that lay beneath our vinyard, dating from the 2nd century.
The vineyard surrounds the ancient ruins, which are believed to be a former outpost of the Roman Empire, used for communication and trading due to its proximity to the river and a roman road making the junction between Tours and Bourges. For more than 20 years, the Domaine des Mazelles has specialized in the winemaking of the grape Sauvignon, through its two main cuvées. Thanks to our distinct and high-quality terroir, a new wine was created in 2011, the Touraine-Chenonceaux, whose aim was to express furthermore the potential of the grape Sauvignon produced by the best parcels in the Cher. The Domaine also cultivates others of the many grape varieties from the Loire, allowing it to produce reds, rosés and Crémants as well.” – Wineberry
