"Jean Boxler is quietly becoming one of the top names when it comes to serious red wine from Alsace. His 2016 Pinot Noir S is pure and aromatic on the fruity, spicy and floral nose that reflects the unique Sommerberg terroir beautifully and with delicate cherry flavors. Silky, fresh and crystalline on the palate, this is a straight, pure and linear Pinot with firm but fine and fresh tannins and a mouthwateringly salty finish. This gorgeous Pinot has never been pumped and was bottled unfiltered in December 2017. Tasted October 2018.

This has been an impressive Saturday morning chez Jean Boxler, and I am blown away by the quality of his 2016 Rieslings. Although the summer of 2016 was extremely, dry the granite soils of the Sommerberg and the Brand gave perfectly ripe grapes due to low yields and adapted canopy management. The wines are deeply complex, highly elegant and refined and very long. I have probably never tasted a more floral Brand with a touch of sweetness that will give an endless life. The 2016 Sommerberg selections from the Eckberg and the Dudenstein are tight and expressive, and both wines should be cellared for years. Pinot Noir freaks shouldn't miss Boxler's 2017 S from the Sommerberg's weathered granite, and the 2016 Pinot Blanc B from the Brand is simply great." -SR 10/2018
