"Wine appears in the life of the Ramilo family by the hand of his great-grandfather, Manuel Francisco Ramilo, who at the beginning of the 20th century dedicated much of the area of his land to wine production. The time and hardness of work on the rugged lands of the region led, however, the following generations to concentrate their business on the distribution and marketing of wines, following the trend of abandonment of agricultural activity that occurred in the region at the end of the 20th century.
Feeling the abandonment of the ancient traditions of the region, the brothers Pedro and Nuno Ramilo dropped everything and returned to their origins. They faced blockades, moved stones and mountains, rehabilitated the farms, saved old vineyards and replanted new ones. They rescued to oblivion the real vineyards of Colares and the noble castes of the region. Its mission is now to honor the heritage and family tradition through the production of wines on two family farms: Quinta do Cameijo, located in the region of the famous wines of Colares, and Quinta do Casal do Ramilo, privilegedly located in the quiet village of Alqueidão, between the historic villages of Sintra and Mafra." -Winery notes
