Le Grappin
Top Line
Wild and captivating wines from one of the indispensable young voices in Beaune.
Background
Emma and Andrew Nielson are an Anglo-Australian (she’s British, he’s Aussie) couple who have carved out a unique space in Burgundy. With a mix of estate and purchased fruit, Grappin is currently releasing their 7th vintage. There is very little oak or intervention.
JT’s Take:
Interestingly, there is a fairly wide gulf between the style of the whites from Grappin and the style of reds. The whites are downright flamboyant while the reds are dense balls of dark juice. I compare the reds to a wilder version of Simon Bize while the whites don’t really have a direct peer.
