Quinta do Tedo 10 Years Old Porto Tawny
"Respecting the land with traditional viticultural methods, while incorporating essential modern technology, to create Portos and Red Wines that showcase the Douro Valley terroir.
Determined to provide an environmentally sound future, we are among the first Porto producers to practice "culture raisonable" - responsible and sustainable agricultural practices.
In July 2011 Quinta do Tedo became certified organic. This means that we rigorously control the types and amounts of products that we apply to our vineyards. We also periodically test the soil, vines and grapes to ensure a healthy vineyard ecosystem that in turn yields high-quality grapes.
Our traditional closely-spaced planting (3.3 x 5 feet) on steep terraces of rocky schist soil includes 18 red grape varietals dominated by Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Cão, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Francesa. Our vineyards are divided into five parcels, each separately vinified.
Our vineyards are on average 35 years old and yield 1.5 tons per acre. This low yield for mature vines creates concentrated flavors and a high level of complexity in our Portos and Red Wines." -Winery notes
